Both the Institure of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and The Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) have test procedures for certification as an Advanced Driver.

Both tests are run on similar lines based on the well-established police systemised method of vehicle control (Roadcraft). Examiners are IAM or RoSPA members who hold a Police Class 1 Driving Certificate.

Previously testing took place in the UK requiring the candidate to travel to Southampton. However, since 1992 testing has been conducted in Jersey.

John Trafford (Chair of JADA)is the examiner in Jersey is assisted by Nigel Gregory who recently qualified as an examiner for both IAM and RoSPA. A third examiner has just started his training. John a former police officer, commissioned testing for the IAM in Jersey in 1992, being at that time Director of Training for IAM Fleet Training in the UK.

Successful candidates not only receive a coverted certificate from the respective testing organisation(s), but also qualify for substantial reductions from several specialist motor insurance companies.
